Web Footprint: Track Your Network Use and Carbon Footprint
Web Footprint is a free Chrome add-on developed by ram.potham that allows users to track their network use and carbon footprint from the web. By monitoring the data transferred and corresponding electricity cost of the websites you visit, this extension provides valuable insights into your environmental impact.
To activate Web Footprint, simply install the extension and open the developer tools in Chrome by pressing F12. The developer tools need to be opened so that the extension has permissions to read network activity. However, you can keep the developer tools at the smallest size possible to minimize disruption.
Once installed and activated, you can easily check your footprint from the websites you visit by clicking on the leaf icon located at the top right corner of your browser. This will display information such as the number of megabytes transferred, electricity used, CO2 released, and even the amount of polar ice melted due to your internet usage.
With Web Footprint, you can gain valuable insights into your network use and make informed decisions to reduce your carbon footprint while browsing the web.
